Island Biology Congress - Hawaii 2014

Researchers of the Azorean Biodiversity Group participated in the first Congress of ISLAND BIOLOGY, held in Hawaii in July 2014.

About 400 participants contributed to a dynamic congress in which it was evident that islands remain a unique laboratory to test ecological, evolutionary and biogeographical theories. 

As a result of the devastating effects of human colonization, island ecosystems face severe threats, and island conservation should be considered vital at international level.

Two important follow-ups of this congress are the creation of a E-Platform for Island Studies in which the Azorean Biodiversity Group will participate in the main Workgroup and the need for the creation of an "International Society for Island Biology"

Moreover, it was cbcluded that cross-island collaborations and data sharing can be strengthened.
