Investigators of Azorean Biodiversity Group, Pedro Cardoso (past Post-Doc and now based in the Natural History Museum of Helsinki), Francois Rigal (Post-Doc) and Jose Carlos Carvalho (Associated Researcher to ABG) produced a new R package BAT – Biodiversity Assessment Tools: http://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/BAT/index.html.
This package introduces algorithms to assess alpha and beta diversity in all their dimensions (taxon, phylogenetic and functional diversity), whether communities are completely sampled or not. It allows performing a number of analyses based on either species identities or ultrametric trees depicting species relationships.
