Termite presence confirmed in Pico Island

Under the Project TERMODISP - "The dry wood termite Cryptotermes brevis (Walker) in the Azores: Monitoring the flights of dispersion and prevention of colonization, " financed by the DRCT-C, the team EMCTA – Equipa de Monitorização e Controlo das Térmitas nos Açores (Monitoring and Control of Termites in the Azores), headed by Professor Paulo Borges, University of the Azores, visited Pico, between 15 and 23 February, to search for evidence of termites in the island. We confirmed the presence of dry wood termite (Cryptotermes brevis) in a house, located in the village of Ribeiras, in the municipality of Lajes, adding this way Pico to the list of Azorean islands with infestation confirmed.
